Giardia is often very difficult to clear with just metronidazole. A combination of metronidazole for 5 days and Panacur (fenbendazole) for 3 days is my preferred treatment for Giardia. Strict environmental cleanup and weekly baths are recommended too as re-contamination is extremely common and the parasite is zoonotic (meaning people can get it from petting a dog that has Giardia cysts on its coat/paws and then eating a sandwich without hand washing for instance). In most cases of vomiting/diarrhea/blood in the stool, I recommend putting the dog on a 3-5 days of just boiled rice and chicken (no dog food, table food or treats) or a prescription Gastrointestinal food (dry and canned are available). Good luck!
