My puppy has a solid lump on his penis sheath. Pimple or growth?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 5 days old | 22 lbs

Hi there. My puppy has a pimple/boil like mass on the sheath of his penis. Noticed it when he was licking it. Other than that, no signs of irritation. It honestly looks like it’s a pimple forming, but when I looked at it, it’s solid and quite large under the skin. What could this be?!

I recommend making an appointment to have Odin seen by your veterinarian. This could be a growth/mass or an infection/ abscess, and it important to have it checked and treated so that it doesn't start to spread or cause discomfort.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be a focal site of infection or an abscess given its appearance and his age. I do think that it would be a good idea to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This usually resolves well when the right treatment is used which in this case if it is an abscess, it may be drainage and antibiotics. Good luck!
