My dog's ear hair isn't growing back after infection. Vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

Finnigan had an ear infection a few months ago and was treated for it. At his follow up appointment, we were told his ear was still slightly inflamed and we treated that. The itching has ceased dramatically. I thought the hair was growing back from where he had been itching but it’s been about 2 months now and it still looks like this. He does not seem to be scratching more than the normal scratching now coming from the dry heat in our house. Should this be looked at by a vet again?

I think it would be a good idea to have your vet recheck Finnigan. It is unusual that the hair still has not grown back and in your picture his skin looks a little red as well. Your vet can make sure he doesn’t have another ear infection.
