Why is my dog acting weird after vet anal gland expression?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 18 days old | 17 lbs

Female Dog went to vet and had a finger put up her anus and now she is freaking out. She keeps acting like something is touching her butt. And running it on the ground. We also have her on ear infection medicine. The medicine is tresaderm. She was shaking her head with symptoms of an ear infection. That symptom seems to be going away as the medicine is working for that.

It could be that Lucy's anal sacs were impacted and the vet expressed them. This can cause some discomfort for a bit of time afterward. She should return to normal in time. I'm glad the medication is working for her ears!
