My 2-month-old ferret is coughing and throwing up. Is it a hairball?

Hi, I was wondering if you guys knew anything about ferrets. I have a 2 month old ferret that might have a Hairball stuck. She has been coughing and threw up last night. I am not allowed to give her ferret lax because she is too young. Please help if there are any alternatives.

Thanks for reaching out about Ellie. An ingested foreign body, hairball or other, is common in young ferrets. A veterinarian should be seen if the coughing continues as these small animals have few reserves. Coughing could also be an indication of a respiratory problem. Remember ferrets can contract influenza. Good luck.
