My 2-month-old ferret is coughing and throwing up. Is it a hairball?

Hi, I was wondering if you guys knew anything about ferrets. I have a 2 month old ferret that might have a Hairball stuck. She has been coughing and threw up last night. I am not allowed to give her ferret lax because she is too young. Please help if there are any alternatives. Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Female | spayed | 2 months and 22 days old

Thanks for reaching out about Ellie. An ingested foreign body, hairball or other, is common in young ferrets. A veterinarian should be seen if the coughing continues as these small animals have few reserves. Coughing could also be an indication of a respiratory problem. Remember ferrets can contract influenza. Good luck.
