My dog had an enema, now has diarrhea after eating. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 12 years old | 45 lbs

After reading some advice on here to help treat constipation, I bought my dog a at home enema and gave her approximately 2 ml (out of 12) and she pooped within 5 mins of it. It’s been about 4 days and she is no longer constipated but whenever she eats, she has brown/orangey diarrhea immediately after. I’m no longer sure if it’s from her eating pumpkin. What should I do?

A good first step would be to bring in a fecal sample to your regular vet. This can help check for some of the most common causes of diarrhea such as some bacteria and parasites. If the fecal is normal, a more thorough workup checking for any GI issues, food allergies, etc can help narrow down possible causes to get Cocoa feeling better.
