Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 4 months old | 55 lbs

My 4 year old Australian Shepard start to limb on his back left leg after we played some frisbee for about 15min and he doesn't want to put any weight on it , I felt between is toes and pads to make sure where was nothing in them and felt up his leg and slowly tried to stretch it out then push it back in..he seems to be in pain when I push it in.. What can I do to help ease his pain..note he is very high energy i can just tell he is uncomfortable .

Poor Gunner! I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck, I hope this helps.
