Hamster's red, infected eye: What to do when she keeps scratching?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female | 3 months and 2 days old | 0.6 lbs

I'm pretty sure my hamsters right eye has gotten infected because it's red around the edges I also suspect that there's something stuck in there, she constantly scratches it and she's missing some fur on her nose,(in the pictures below)I noticed this yesterday and I'm really concerned about her health. What can I do to help her?!

Thanks for reaching out about Snoboll. Trying to irrigate or rinse with a saline solution for eyes, might help to dislodge some foreign particles. Additional care such as ophthalmic antibiotics or analgesia needs to be prescribed by a veterinarian. A veterinary visit is recommended as ocular lesions can progress quickly to infected corneas or possible loss of vision. Good luck.
