Can my dog sleep safely in a dog house on the balcony in winter?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 24 days old | 2.2 lbs

I got a wooden house for the dog, i will put warm blankets on the inside, and her pillow/bed on the inside. The door is plastic three stripes. Can I leave her to sleep and stay at the balcony at night or during the day ? temperature goes down to -5 celsius

If the wooden dog house is insulated, and there is a lot of padding inside and the door is covered, that would be ok during the day but I would avoid it at night. Make sure that the balcony has a secure border so that she cannot get through the barrier /slip through or under the bars and fall or escape. I would also not recommend it if you're on a lower floor where someone could potentially try to snag her. Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
