You might try changing the diet to see if this helps. I recommend the brand Royal Canin. This diet can help a lot with hair issues. It is not normal for dogs to loose hair at any age. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian to look at his skin. It is possible he has allergies, skin mites or even a endocrdisease that is leading to the hair loss. I would apply flea prevention every 30 days. Also you can try an over the counter anti histamine to help with allergies. Hope that helps
