My cat is isolating, lying on floor, and peeing less. Is he sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

My male cat, about 7, is choosing to be left alone lately instead of being around us, and also laying on the floor rather than on the couch or a chair. It's Summer here, so that may be the cause, but he's also peeing less than usual, although he's still drinking and eating properly. What should I do? I don't currently have access to a vet and I've had these symptoms on a previous cat before, please help and thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, those are very vague symptoms, so the best course of action would be to see a vet when you can if they continue. Heat can definitely make things worse and may make it so your cat wants to stay low or on tile that is cooler. Making sure he has access to water at all times and cool shaded spots to sleep in may help. However, if he doesn't perk up even with the weather cools, can't urinate at all, or shows any other signs of illness, trying to find a vet near you ASAP is best.
