How often should I give my dog antibiotics after spay surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 11 lbs

My dog got spayed yesterday (1-16-19). They gave her antibiotics. How many hours apart should I give the antibiotics? This is my first time dealing with this sort of thing and I'm just real nervous.

Hello, sorry to hear about Memphis. It really depends on the type of antibiotics. The frequency of the medication should be written on the labeled bottle or packaging. Often antibiotics are given once to twice daily depending on which antibiotic was prescribed. If you do not see a label with the written prescription, you should call your veterinarian to a prescription. If you do not see a label, do not administer the medication until you obtain a prescription. Hope this helps and best of luck.
