My dog has IBS. Can I change her food protein without stomach upset?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi trixie has eaten Royal Canin Rx rabbit and pea for many years now for IBS. What has been your experience regarding stomach upset if I should switch to one of the other selected proteins like duck and pea? I ask because lately she’s been not as excited about her rabbit and pea and every thing checks out ok at the vet (bloodwork , teeth etc) so my vet has suggested trying another protein. Thx!

If your vet suggested another protein, then I think it would be safe to make the switch for Trixie. Be sure to the switch slowly to avoid GI upset. If you do get GI upset, then changing protein isn't a good idea, and I would go back to the rabbit and pea. Best of luck, I hope this helps.
