My hamster has a swollen mouth and won't eat. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female | unspayed

Luna has an injury (a cut) on her neck near her mouth area, but she is doing well and is back to being the same way she was before but her mouth is swollen and she has not eaten since yesterday but I've seen her dig around in her food sniffing things but not eating anything. Is there any way I could possibly manage to get her to eat

Poor Luna! A hamster not eating is not normal. She is likely in pain, and should be seen by a vet for appropriate care. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for hamsters, so I do not recommend giving any to Luna without consulting with your vet. Good luck, and I hope Luna feels better soon!
