My dog had bladder surgery. Is red urine normal during her recovery?

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 3 lbs

Mollie had an op. 3 wks ago 2 remove sludge &2 Small stones from her bladder. She's recovering really well. Just she's peeing red urine but showing no signs of any illnesses Or discomfort/pain?, just wondering if you Could please, put my mind at rest, Thank you for your time and help, Christine. Mollies mum.

Hello, thank you for your question about Mollie. A small amount of blood in the urine is to expected after this kind of procedure secondary to the surgery causing mild inflammation/trauma. If Mollie is otherwise acting normally and this continues to improve I would not be concerned. If this persists or she begins to demonstrate other symptoms such as more frequent urinations, decreased appetite, or lethargy it is possible that she may have developed a secondary urinary tract infection. I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian if the signs do not resolve. Hope this helps!
