My puppy sounds like gagging, but nothing comes out. Is it coughing?

Hello, My 2,5 month old pup sounded like she wants to throw up but nothing comes out. She recently had a sore throat and received an antibiotic therapy. I'm not sure if she is coughing or is she really trying to throw up? It just started yesterday and she did struggled almost the entire evening. She sleeps and eats and poops well though. I'm getting ready to go to the vet now, but like to have your opinion. Thanks. Pet's info: Small Animal | Chinchilla | Female | unspayed | 5 lbs

Hello, thank you for your question about Mila. It can sometimes be very challenging to differentiate between coughing/vomiting. Based on the history that you provide and the fact that Mila is not producing anything I would be more suspicious that she is coughing. Your veterinarian will be able to examine her and try to get a better idea of what is going on. They can then discuss further diagnostic or treatment options based on their assessment.
