My dog has degenerative myelopathy, so she has some sores on her rear feet from dragging them when she walks. Now that it is cold and there is snow on the ground I have noticed her sores start to bleed more often. Is there anything I can do for her sores? Is neosporin OK?

I hate to hear that about Hersey. Certainly protecting the feet is important. Having her wear some doggy booties is a good protective measure. It may also help her to walk a little better. At home you can treat the wound by keeping it clean and dry. You can apply a small amount of topical antibiotic and rub it in well. Make sure she does not lick it off as it is not intended to be ingested. Starting her on an omega-3 fatty acid supplement for dogs can also help improve her skin quality and that may allow it to heal faster. Lastly, conditioning the skin with a little topical coconut oil rubbed in very well can also help. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any further questions.
