Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 7 lbs
Reggie is what you would call a "dumpster" cat. Very lovable cat and gets along with my other ones but I don't know if it is separation anxiety or what this behavior is about. he is super destructive. he's extra bad once I leave but he is bad during the night when I'm asleep. he has completely destroyed mostly everything and has brought me to tears. I work hard for my items & to have this happen is heartbreaking in all angles. What can I do short of taking him to a shelter?

I hate to hear that is happening. I know how frustrating that must be. There are a few things you can try to see if Reggie will settle down at night and sleep. Set aside at least 30 minutes a day to play with him to burn off some energy. Get some toys or a laser pointer and have fun! Create climbing opportunities such as shelves mounted to the walls or a tall cat tree. It’s a bonus if there is a nesting box on the top. Use a pheromone diffuser such as Feliway as this may help to calm him more. A pet food company called Royal Canin makes a prescription diet called Calm that effects the serotonin levels I. The brain which can help to calm him down. Lastly, your veterinarian may be able to prescribe medications to help control the behavior. This typically works best when in conjunction with some of the above listed suggestions. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
