Is my Jackson chameleon sleeping too much? How many crickets to feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Chameleon | Male

Hi, I just bought this Jackson and I’m going to take him to the vet but I was wondering if there is he looks healthy.. He is acting okay, he has eaten.. the one particular thing is that he sleeps most of the day, I don’t know if that’s normal.. I have him in a 2 feet tall cage(till i find a taller one) and he has his heat light.. another question, how much do I feed him? I gave him two crickets last night, is that enough for him cause he is a little big.

He looks healthy, but looks can be deceiving. Chameleons are very active to begin with, plus being in a new environment may be stressful for him. You can feed 5-7 crickets at each feeding. Gut load them for 24 hours prior to offering to maximize nutritional value. You can also offer dubia roaches, wax worms and butter worms. All prey should be no larger than the space between the eyes.
