My puppy's poop is soft, but she seems totally fine. Should I worry?

Soft poop can be a sign of a medical problem such as intestinal worms. I see Garlic (LOVE her name!) is a puppy, and those can be common in puppies. Give her a deworming treatment and keep an eye on things. If her poop continues to be soft over the next 24-48 hours, have her seen by a vet. Best of luck.

Yes Damara’s stoops should be more solid. I’m wondering if she’s had any deworming treatments. If not, intestinal worms could be the cause of her soft stool. I would bring a stool sample into the vet to check for worms. I hope this helps!

Stool consistency can change from soft-serve to firm without being an indicator of illness. Sometimes it will change based on food or treats that they received outside of their normal diet. Stress can also cause softer-than-normal stools. If you see blood, abnormal contents in the stool (such as worms or "rice"), or Luna has vomiting or a decrease in appetite, then this may be a sign of illness and she should be examined by a vet.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Given than Cholula is a puppy and prone to eating poop, here is a high chance that her diarrhea is due to intestinal parasites. Other possibilities include a gut infection (gastroenteritis), or dietary sensitivity. If her stools are not improving in the next 1-2 days, I would recommend getting her to the vet. They can test a stool sample for parasites, and prescribe supportive medication to help the diarrhea. In the meantime, try offering Cholula small, frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and white rice. You can also offer a probiotic supplement such as Fortiflora. Ensure she is taking in plenty of water, as diarrhea can cause dehydration especially in young pups. I hope this helps, and that Chohula feels better soon!

Soft stool has multiple causes. It may be gastrointestinal upset or inflammation, intestinal parasites or due to dietary indiscretions just to name a few. As long as Remy is acting normally, you don't necessarily need to take him to your veterinarian. You should submit a stool sample though to diagnose intestinal parasites. Try withholding food for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal then transition slowly to his regular diet. If the soft stool does not resolve or if Remy develops lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or vomiting them have him examined by your veterinarian.

I Adopted a new puppy 3 days before. On the first day her poop was slightly dry and solid but the next day her poop softened like a cream. Is there anything to worry about?
Congratulations on your new puppy she is adorable! I would not worry at all about the change in her poo, as long as she is still happy and well in herself. Some variation between bowel movements is normal. The intestines can also be affected by stress, which she may be experiencing some of with all the changes. If you notice that it continues to be loose you may consider adding some cooked, skinless sweet potato to her regular dog food.

Karma is about 4 weeks old. No shots or dewormers yet, because her appt is for her 6 week bday. I've started weaning her off formula by mixing it with chicken and rice dry puppy food (authority brand) and been noticing she has inconsistent bowel move
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Soft stools can be normal as they transition from formula to kibble or canned food. If she is otherwise doing well, this may be ok. If it ever becomes consistent diarrhea, have her evaluated by a veterinarian before her scheduled appointment. Keep in mind that it may be best to continue the formula until she is 6 weeks old. Congratulation on your new addition! One of the most common reasons that we will see soft stools in a puppy is some type of intestinal parasite. Puppies can commonly have intestinal parasites even if they have been previously dewormed. Some are microscopic, so the only way to know that they have them is for your vet to look under the microscope. And even if a puppy has been dewormed, it is common for them to have other intestinal parasites since there are so many different types of parasites and they each require a specific type of deworming. So, my first recommendation is to have your veterinarian do a fecal check on Zola, then decide on any other treatment. A round belly can be normal in puppies, so I would not be concerned with that, but we do want to treat her soft stool. Sometimes puppies need a probiotic for their intestinal tract depending on their age and diet history, so be sure to talk to your veterinarian about that as well. Good luck! Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Mallows is very cute! There is a period of adjustment for puppies to their new home and to their new food. I think it is encouraging that her stool is improving. Intestinal parasites are very common in puppies and she does need to start her vaccines. I would take her to the Vet to have her stool tested, have her dewormed and get her first DHPP vaccine. If deworming her and time doesn't improve the stool then I would recommend changing her food. Have a great day!
