Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old
My cat was bit last Thursday morning. He has been watched and is in his 6th day of being watched. He eats and drinks still and has no signs of agression and walks just fine. Yesterday he just laid around which I'm assuming is because of his wound Tomorrow is his 7th day of being watched. Being this far into being bitten would he be showing dangerous symptoms of rabies by now? Thank You.

Hello, thank you for your question about Logan. I'm sorry to hear that he was bitten. Although it is becoming less likely the farther from the insult the animal gets the Rabies virus can live in their system and they can develop symptoms up to ~75 days after exposure. Depending on what Logan was bitten by, another vaccinated animal, wild animal, or you're unsure this changes the recommendation for quarantine. I would recommend continued monitoring and adhering to the quarantine as previously directed by your veterinarian. If you have further questions about the quarantine guidelines or would like further advice you can consult your veterinarian or with your town's animal control/board of health. There is a published Rabies compendium that outlines how these cases should be handled overall. Generally each state also has widely available recommendations/details regarding how to manage these situations. Hope this helps!
