I do not recommend giving over the counter medication such as Tums to Lyle. If you think he is in pain you are likely correct, and that warrants a trip to your veterinarian to see why Lyle is uncomfortable. What looks like stomach pain can be due to pancreatitis/ inflammation of the pancreas, back pain, infection, a blockage in the gastrointestinal tract due to a mass or ingestion or a foreign object. Your vet should be able to help figure out what is going on and formulate an appropriate treatment plan for Lyle. I hope he feels better soon!

I do not recommend giving Tums as Tums products often contain the artificial sweetener xylitol which is toxic to dogs. Abdominal pain can be due to a variety of causes included pancreatitis from table food, bloat, gastroenteritis or or a foreign body obstruction. If there is no vomiting or diarrhea and Lyle is pooping normally and at a normal frequency, I would recommend feeding just plain boiled rice and chicken (with no treats or regular dog food) until you are able to bring him to your veterinarian’s for an exam/consult. Good luck!
