My hamster has a growth in its ear. What should I do to treat it?

My hamster grow something inside his ear can anybody check what happen to him? What should I do now also is there any medicine that I can use to apply on that spot to get that thing rid away?

Thanks for reaching out. Ear abscesses and ear tumors are fairly common in hamsters. You can try to gently clean with warm water and a cotton tipped applicator, but don't rub too hard as these tumors can bleed a fair amount. If the scab comes out easy and it appears as pus, a veterinary visit is needed to prescribe otic and systemic antibiotics. If it seems like a mass (i.e. tumor), a veterinary visit is needed for this treatment. Good luck.

    Thanks for reaching out about your hamster. It seems the scab fell off, probably from scratching. The tumor probably still remains and will likely grow back. Surgical removal via a scapel, laser or cryo-apparatus could be used to lessen hemorrhage. At this point, continuing the ear drops might help to prevent secondary infections. Good luck.

My dwarf hamster has a white mass in his ear i only noticed it today
Thanks for reaching out about Nick Fury and including photos. Abscesses and papillomas are common in hamster's ears. If the mass continues to grow or seems to bother him, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess. An abscess can probably be treated with antibiotics, the papilloma might need to be removed, a laser or freezing works well. Good luck.

Hi, and thanks for your question. Although a picture of it would help to determine the underlying cause more specifically, generally speaking this kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. It is hard to tell from the photo, but rapid growth like that, along with a scab or plug can sometimes indicate an infection/wound that isn't healing properly and has abscessed. Tumors and other growths/diseases may also cause rapid growth as well. I would have Bruskur seen by your vet so they can take a sample of what's inside the growth to see if it's infection, potential tumor cells, etc to determine what the best course of action is (surgical removal, drainage of material, medications, etc). Until you can get to your vet, keeping the area clean and dry and keeping Bruskur's bedding and environment as clean as possible can help, but if it's growing super fast a vet visit ASAP is needed.

My hamster had a lump on her neck for a couple days And it has ruptured. We have called the vet to see if they could provide us any info on how to treat and they wouldnt. Are there any remedies that we can try at home? Shes still eating and drinking.
It has the appearance of an abscess or other infection. She likely needs antibiotics for treatment. These require an exam with your veterinarian before they can be dispensed. In the meantime, keep the area clean and dry. The most you can do is use diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) to cleanse the area daily. Monitor for lethargy or loss of appetite.

Thanks for reaching out about Galya. You can clean the abscess are with a warm, moistened cloth or cotton tipped applicator. Topical medications are often ingested and can cause gastrointestinal upset, so not recommended. Try clipping the fur around the open lesion to lessen contamination. Continue with the oral antibiotics if hamster appropriate. Providing heat support in the 75 F range could give some aid, not letting it get too cold. If this veterinarian can't help you, find one who can. Good luck.

It is hard to know just by looking at the pictures. It could be caused by trauma, infection, cyst, or a tumor. You could clean the area with a wound cleaner and see if it resolves. If it is a tumor or cyst it may continue to grow. The only way to know the exact cause is to have a vet do a needle aspirate.

My robo hamster has a tumor growing on his leg/stomach area. It seems to have punctures so I am not sure if it is actually a tumor, a bite, or if he has been nibbling on it. I am not sure what to do about it.
You should take Graham to a veterinarian for an exam. This could be a tumor, an abscess or a cyst. The vet can find out which of the three it is. If the tumor is not too big, it can be removed. An abscess is easily treated (lanced and evacuated, flushed) and a cyst can easily be emptied as well. Do not wait too long with taking him to the vet, as tumors grow, and abscesses can cause really bad infections.

I have a 2-2 1/2 year old dwarf hamster. I got home from a vacation and she had some slight hair loss around her ear and some redness inside her ear. I can’t rake her to the vet and I have no clue what to do. Please help
Thanks for reaching out about Lune. Hair loss is probably due to scratching. The redness inside the ear could be due to infection, inflammation, mites or tumors in the ear. Unfortunately, a veterinary visit is needed for a diagnosis and then to prescribe a treatment. Care must be taken not to apply any topical medications as self grooming is common, and ingestion of medications can be critical. Try to look inside the ear to visualize any lesions. Good luck.
