My cat was just spayed. Is it safe for her to walk and roam freely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

hello! my cat just got spayed yesterday and we took her home just this morning, she was a bit weak at first but now she started to walk around abit like everythings okay. we put her in a room to let her rest since she doesnt like being in a cage, but she wouldnt stop meowing so we let her out into the living room, incase she wanted to feel less lonely but now im just worried sick. is it okay for her to roam around after she just got spayed? my vet visit will be in two days but im just worried.

You really do want to limit Grey’s walking around and especially don’t allow her to jump. Go ahead and put her back in her room. It’s normal for cats to meow when they aren’t happy about being confined. Try visiting her in her room instead of her visiting in your room. If she really gets distressed, call the vet and ask about a sedative. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, she can roam the house, but please try to limit her activity. Try to prevent jumping and running. She is only 2 days post surgery and can cause incisional issues with too much jumping and twisting. Good luck!
