Elderly cat blind with kidney disease. Should I reevaluate her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 18 years and 4 months old | 8.6 lbs

My elderly cat (18) has kidney disease and has just recently become blind. Should I get her reevaluated. She is not under any medication. I have subcutaneous fluids but it stresses her so much, I’m not sure if it’s a help or causes her more stress than it’s worth.

Yes, please have her reevaluated. The blindness likely is caused by high blood pressure and the high blood pressure is likely caused by the kidney disease. Your cat will need to be evaluated and then put on blood pressure medication. Subcutaneous fluid giving should not stress her, if it is done right. You may want to have your vet show you again, how it is done. Please take Kitkat for a recheck today.
