My dog has a movable lump on his chest. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 8 months old | 17 lbs

I just felt a moveable lump on the upper left side of my dogs chest, sort of by his arm. I can't see it, but I was just touching him there and felt it. It moves around. It doesn't seem to bother him when I touch it. Do you think it's anything worrisome or probably not since it moves around?

Thank you for your questions about Charlie. I recommend to take Charlie to see his veterinarian to have the mass checked. Just because a mass is mobile or certain texture does not necessarily mean it's benign. Just because a mass is fixed does not mean it's malignant. Most skin masses are benign, but there are malignant tumors out there. Just like with a human, the doctor may need take a sample of the mass or remove the mass entirely and microscopically exam it. Thats the only way to know what it is accurately. Any time a pet gets a new mass, I always recommend to have it examined and go from there. It's better to be safe than sorry. I hope this helps to point you in the right direction. Please feel free to post any further questions!
