Dog dribbling brown blood after C-section/spay. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years old | 5 lbs

My yorkie had a c section and was fixed 1 week and 2 days ago. Her puppy was huge and had passed before she had it a few days prior.. Shes done well with recovery but after she urinates she squates a few more times and just dribbles. My vet didnt act concerned when I mentioned it 4 days after her surgery. Just now after her and I awoke from a nap she had dribbled a little bit of a light brown color blood.. Is this normal after such a surgery a week ago?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your Piper. The blood could be coming from her bladder or what is left of her reproductive tract. If she was spayed at the time of surgery, it seems like the bleeding would have resolved by now. She could have acquired a urinary tract infection though. I would contact her veterinarian to see if a urine sample needs to be tested. Most of the time a small needle will be used to collect the sample directly from the bladder. I hope this information helps!
