What temperature is too cold for my senior dog's daily walk?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 12 years and 7 months old | 85 lbs

Nash is 12-1/2. 85 lbs. Still healthy but showing his age a bit. We go on a daily walk for past 10 years at 5 AM. He loves it and is very excited when I get ready. At his age, is there a temperature where I should skip the walk due to cold? 18 degrees did not phase him last week. Thanks, Tom Gildea

As long as he keeps moving and is happy to go out with you there should be no problem. If you think he may be cold, you can always put a dog coat on him. It is good for him to move out. Adjust exercise to his ability. If he gets very stiff, you may want to have him examined by your vet as he is likely to suffer from arthritis. NSAIDs for dogs can greatly improve quality of life as they will lower inflammation and take away pain.
