My senior cat has kidney failure and won't eat. What should I do?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 17 years and 3 months old | 5.2 lbs

my cat is 17 and I have had him on food he does not throw up for the past six years I am trying out several different kidney diet foods he ate it at first one of the new bags but then stopped eating it so I tried the old food he started eating it and now he’s not eating either so I tried to go down to one bowl and he’s not eating just drinking a ton water. He starting kidney failure so I got him a B 12 shot and some fluid last Monday but He’s not eating well and I don’t think thyroid meds work

I am so sorry that Alex has been diagnosed with Kidney disease and it sounds like possibly hyperthyroidism. Unfortunately, these two diseases can be difficult to battle. I would talk to your vet about starting him on an appetite stimulant. You can also have fluids given to him under his skin on a daily or every other day basis to help keep the kidney values down to help make him feel better. I would have your vet recheck the thyroid and kidney values if his have been on medicine for awhile to ensure it is working properly and there isn't something else going on. You could also look for an alternative vet to seek acupuncture to help stimulate appetite. I hope this helps!
