What causes my kitten to have swollen lymph nodes and gingivitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 11 days old

My kitten is 6 months old, we adopted her as she was stray. She has enlarged lymph nodes and gingivitis and we’re desperately scared. We know there are a number of things that could cause this- please give us some hope.

The enlarged lymph nodes could be due to a number of different infectious diseases, unfortunately this includes the FeLV and FIV viruses if your kitten has not yet been tested. Gingivitis in a young kitten can be related to these viruses as well but some kittens will have juvenile gingivitis that they outgrow.
