Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 3 lbs
Hello, I have a Holland Loop bunny, he is 1 year old. Several months ago, he got a parasite that affected his right eye. The parasite is gone now, he still has his eye, but he is completely blind. He's still on medication, one for maintaining normal eye pressure, and the other one is for inflammation. He used to have pus on his eyeball, but today we noticed the pus just burst. I just wanted to know how bad this is, do I need to take him to the vet immediately? He seems fine, acting normal.

Thanks for reaching out about Rayo. One parasite that commonly caused lens changes (cataracts) is Encephlitozoon cuniculi. It can be treated and responds fairly well to treatment but hard to tell if parasite is gone. If the lens becomes luxated into the anterior chamber of the globe, glaucoma can result and needs to be treated. When an abscess bursts, it is a good idea to have a visit to your veterinarian, as abscesses usually need systemic antibiotics to manage. Good luck.
