Hi, my Doberman has skin problems both inside and outside of both ears. Best way I can describe is it looks like eczma. He is 1 YO and is in good health. This does not seem to bother him but obviously something isn’t right. No black ‘gunk’ which could be associated with ticks but looking for advice. I have a smaller dog, could these marks be if they play fight? I’ve used tick drops and it hasn’t improved.

Those lesions on the ear are more likely related to vasculitis or a fungal infection. Play fighting can leave marks on the skin and if these got infected, then they could spread and look like this. It's unlikely that your pup would allow the smaller dog to chew on his ears this much as thats expected to be painful. I recommend to make an appointment to have the ears checked out. The doctor will try to determine the cause and prescribe appropriate medication. Although it will not fix the problem, starting him on a omega 3 fatty acid meant for dogs will condition the skin and decrease inflammation which may help if vasculitis is present. It certainly won't hurt anything. I hope this helps to point you in the right direction. Please feel free to post any further questions!
