My cat threw up new dry food, but eats wet. Is vet's tonic needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old

A day ago I opened a new box of dry cat food and gave it to Milo. He threw up twice with bits of biscuits in his vomit. I gave him wet food, he ate it. Changed his dry food and now he won't eat it. I took him to his vet and he suggested I take his dry food away for at least 12 hours and give him a livertonic three times a day to induce hunger. However when he eats his wetfood he's very hungry and finishes the entire thing immediately. So I'm skeptical of giving him the tonic. Advise please.

Hello. I agree with you. If Milo is eating the wet food with no problems then skip the tonic & just continue to feed the wet food. Cats actually do better with a wet or canned food diet so if he does well on it, just continue. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
