Why does my 5-month-old kitten have sudden red spots on face/ears?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 months and 3 days old | 4 lbs

My kitten of about 5 months just got these red things on his face and ears today. I didn’t see them earlier this morning but I could have missed them. What could it be?

Those look pretty obvious and are hard to miss. I recommend to get Nimbus into the veterinarian tonight. I am most concerned he is having an allergic reaction or that those are bruises, in which case I am very worried about a bleeding disorder. Bacterial infections or fungal infections can grown quickly but generally not that quickly. He needs a vet to examine his whole body and look for clues as to the cause and then begin recommended treatment. Make sure to check your home (and yard if he goes outside) for any rodent bait as this toxin will cause bleeding abnormalities and needs treatment very quickly. The doctor may need to preform a blood test to look at the platelet numbers. Also check for any other signs of trauma like piles of fur or other indications of a fight. Hopefully its something less severe but it's better to be safe.
