Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 30 lbs

What foods do you recommend for a 30 lb Beagle that mostly stays indoors & has a laid back lifestyle? & if possible how many calories per day would you recommend? Thank you!

I recommend a gradual transition over the course of a week or so from your current dog food to Royal Canin Adult Beagle food which can usually be found in PetCo’s and is also available online. I would also look up ‘body condition scoring chart for dogs’ and determine whether Belle is at a normal/lean body condition or if she is a bit overweight or thin. If she is a bit overweight (does not have a noticeable waist from the top view or side view), 2 cups per day would probably be appropriate (2 3/4 cups is recommended on the bag for a 30 lb beagle with a normal activity level). It is best to gradually adjust the food ration based on body condition scoring over the course of several weeks. Different diets have different caloric densities so it is generally best to gauge the appropriate amount to feed based on body condition scoring . Good luck!
