How to give my dog pain meds after eye surgery if she won't eat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 8 years old | 11.4 lbs

My dog had surgery on her right eye socket 10hrs ago (surgery ended at 3pm). She lost her eye due to injury 2 yrs ago and has experienced discharge ever since. Today was the 2nd surgery to try and remedy that by removing remaining ocular/lacrimal tissue. She is obviously in pain (intermittent whimpering), but I don’t know how to administer her Tramadol because she won’t eat/drink yet (I’ve tried all her favs). I can’t be forceful because one side of her face is very swollen. Any suggestions?

Hi, I would recommend to go back to your vet and ask for a liquid pain relief that can perhaps be administered from the other side of Nezumi’s mouth. Tramadol is very bitter and I don’t think Nexumi will eat it in her food even if she had an appetite. Hope this helps !
