My dog ate xylitol. Should I take her home early from emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 65 lbs

So our 65 pound dog just ate a 550 mg xylitol tablet off the counter before bed and we took her to an emergency vet, they decided to keep her overnight. We did some research and found out that hypoglycemia only occurs at 50mg per pound, so my question is if we should take her out early to avoid extra pay or just leave her

Just leave Lucy. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs, and she is in exactly the right place now. The vet would let you take her home if they felt it was safe. You were extremely smart to bring her into an ER vet straight away. Best of luck.
