My dog scratches until she bleeds. Is dandruff shampoo safe for scabs?

Hi! My dog is a Shar Pei and Lab mix. She has about three spots she has scratched so bad it bled and scabbed and she keeps scratching them. I have filed her nails, trimmed them. I bought dandruff shampoo today to try, I’m afraid it might aggravate it. Is she missing something in her diet? And is the dandruff shampoo okay to use with the scabs on her? Thank you!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Storm. She will need to see her veterinarian to determine the source of her itching. If she is scratching so much that she is causing trauma to herself, she will require medication. She may be prescribed something to stop the itching and then antibiotics if there seems to be a second skin infection present. Once the reason for the scratching is determined, measures can be taken to prevent it from recurring. In the meantime, the shampoo may provide some relief, but will likely not cure the issue. I hope this information helps!
