Thank you for submitting your question regarding Hank. Acute cases of pancreatitis can be severe. Some dogs even require hospitalization, while most need medications and fluid therapy. As far as long term management, I typically recommend a prescription ultra low fat diet. This is the single most effective thing I have found to prevent a reoccurrence. If you are interested in home cooking for your dog, then I recommend using a recipe from a veterinary nutritionist. I like the website www.balanceit.com. In cases of chronic pancreatitis, a high potency fatty acid supplement can decrease pancreatic inflammation. I hope this information helps!
