What can I do to help my stressed dog? We found him on the road and took him home. After a few months, we discovered he had a broken leg and it had to be amputated. This was a few years ago. Now, anytime we pick him up he growls. He also growls if you touch him in certain spots. I’ve noticed that he hates feet as well. If he grazes my feet his heart will race and he’ll become spastic. He also doesn’t like sudden movement. Is there anything I can do to help him?

I am suspicious that he may be painful somewhere. Possibly spinal pain. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. If no pain is identified then you may want to discuss the possibility of anti anxiety medications and possibly a consultation with a veterinary behaviorist. These situations can take quite some time and training an sometimes different medications to find the right combination. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
