How to stop my 3-month-old puppy from pooping in his crate at night?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 24 days old | 4 lbs

I have a 3 month old Shitzu-Maltese, I have him in a feeding schedule of 7am-11am and lastly at 3:00 pm. He continues to poop in the middle of the night inside his crate. He only goes in the crate for bed time. He won’t poop all day sometimes, bu in the moning I’ll find two piles of poop in the cage. I take him out at 6am. I don’t understand what I am doing wrong. The only thing I’ve noticed is he doesn’t drink enough water. I’ve researched and I can’t seem to make him drink more of it. thank yo

If he is getting wet or canned food, his water consumption will be decreased due to him getting so much in the food. He needs a smaller kennel at night. If he has enough room to go to the bathroom in there and lay somewhere else without touching it, then he will continue to do it. You can try to place a filler in there to help make it a little smaller to help
