Puppy splits time between homes. How to ease separation anxiety?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 3 days old | 6 lbs

We have had our puppy three days. Unfortunately due to our apartment rules, we can't have her full time and have to bring her to the breeders 4 days a week until we can have her full time in June. Is there any way I can make this easier for my pup? I don't want her to feel like we're abandoning her.

Hello. There is really no way to make this easier for your puppy except to make every effort to spend time with Bandit when she is with the breeder. I think if you can do this & make sure you & the breeder keep Bandit on the same sleep, play, training & meal schedule, then when you can bring her home permanently in June, it should go pretty smoothly. Making sure you supply the same bedding & sleeping crate will help her feel comfortable in both locations. She will only be about 4 months old when she comes home to you & by then she will be very comfortable & able to adapt very quickly. Good luck with your puppy & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
