Does my kitten need flea and tick prevention if he will be a 100% indoor cat?

I personally still recommend it because you can bring in fleas and ticks on your clothes thus accidentally infesting Kodi. Visitors can bring them in as well. It's best she's protected. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for your post! Yes, it is recommended that even indoor cats be on flea preventative. The reason for this is fleas can find ways into your home and even hitch a ride on you! It only takes one flea to induce a flea allergy and cause an infestation eventually so it is better to prevent. Dealing with fleas on your pet and in your house can be a real headache. I was wondering if I should put flea and tick medicine on even though he is a indoor cat only
It is dependent on where you live - in some apartment buildings or yards there are many fleas in the environment, and a flea can easily get inside and cause an infestation. Dogs can also bring fleas indoors, even when they are on preventatives, so if you have any other pets that go outside I would definitely start a preventative for Jackson. Otherwise you can talk to your vet about starting a preventative now or monitoring for symptoms of fleas.

Do I have to regularly give my kitten pills for helminths and use a spray for fleas if he doesn't go outside? If I should the how often?
An indoor cat with no exposure should be dewormed at least every 6 months. He may not go outdoors, but you do and it is possible small mammals, namely rodents, may find their way inside the house. A topical flea and tick preventative should be used monthly all year round. Alternatively, you could use it during the Spring, Summer and Fall months.

Indoor cats are less likely to get fleas but it does happen. If you have other pets in the house, the risk increases. It's up to you if you want her on treatment or not. Yes, she does need to be tested for worms, Felv/FIV and she needs to be current on her FVRCP (it's like a cat distemper). YOu can carry things like viruses in on your clothes. The vaccine is highly effective and safe. I hope this helps.

The most comprehensive protection you can get that is also the easiest to apply and has very, very few side effects would be Revolution. I highly recommend this. We have three feral kittens about 4 months old living in our backyard. We have a feral kitten from the same litter that we rescued from near death and are raising indoors. He has kitten revolution on him. The feral kittens are vaccinated and neutered
Flea collars is a good idea for the feral kittens, but fleas do not live on the animal, they live in the environment. The problem is the outdoors where fleas live which can jump onto Whitey. He is protected from fleas with the Revolution, but potentially he could carry them into the home, causing the home to be infested with fleas. To keep your house from having fleas in it, I'd keep him indoors. Best of luck.

Luna is an indoor cat only, but should I be doing preventative treatments for fleas and tapeworms? If so, why and how often?
Yes, it is recommended to treat her but not as often as a cat that has access to the outside. i would probably recommend treating her once a year for fleas (before summer time) and once a year for worms as well, just to be on the safe side as fleas can brought from the outside by anyone that goes in and out of the house (and tapeworms are transmitted via fleas to your cat).

Yes, I would recommend putting her on a flea prevention at the very least - you may not need tick coverage if she doesn't go into wooded areas or tall grass, but almost all pets are exposed to fleas simply be going for a daily walk. The best products currently available are oral medications such as Comfortis/Trifexis, Nexgard, and Bravecto - you can get these from your vet.

Yes of course you can give your pet cat Holly a flea preventative like Revolution or Advantage multi, but there is no tick preventative out there for cats at the present time. If you do decide to use another product on Holly make sure it is labeled safe for use in cats.
