My cat's leg is swollen after fluids for kidney failure. Is it fluid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat is on fluid hydration IV due to kidney failure. He gets about 100ml-200ml every other day depending on his hydration levels. He seems happy and active but we noticed his right leg seems bigger than the others. Could that be that the fluid retention is just in that one spot and will eventually dispurse?

Fluids under the skin will be absorbed as they are needed. They should not persist past 24 hours. If there is still a swelling then it is something else and he should be checked by.l a vet to see what is changing
