Is my cat at risk of blindness from fluoroquinolone medications?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Enrofloxacin has been associated with cat retinal degeneration/blindness. Is this a potential risk associated with all fluoroquinolones (such as Marbofloxacin, for example)?

All fluoroquinolones have the potential to cause retinal degeneration in cats, but most studies and case reports have been in regards to enrofloxacin. The risk seems to be dose dependent and is more likely to occur with rapid IV infusion or prolonged treatment.
