My cat is dying and hiding. How do I comfort her without disturbing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 years and 6 months old | 5.12 lbs

My cat is 10 years old. We recently found out she has a form of cancer from a tumor in her throat. Today we took her in for an X-ray and they found a severe form of some disease causing a lot of fluid around her lungs. Their are spots on the lungs that he believes are also cancer. She was given a couple days to weeks. I want her to be comfortable and know she is loved so much. When she goes into her hiding spot should I go take her out of it? Or should I sit next to her? Or just let her be?

I'm really sorry to hear about poor Tierra. Cats that feel bad prefer to hide and keep to themselves, so it would actually be better to let her stay where she wants to stay. It will be fine for you to sit next to her, but she may not want to be touched - you will be the best judge of that. She may even come out at some point of if she feels well enough. I hope that helps and Tierra feels better soon.
