Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Every dog is different. What one puppy tolerates another may not. If Lobo is having diarrhea be sure to have your Vet check for worms, as that is a common cause of diarrhea in puppies. I would try a different brand of puppy food. I like Hill's Science Diet, Purina and Royal Canin. It may take some trial and error to find on that he tolerates. If his abnormal stool persists you should have your Vet examine him. Be sure you keep him up to date on his shots. Have a great day!

    Hi, sorry to hear Voldemort is having diarrhea. The most common reasons for puppies to get diarrhea is worms. make sure he is dewormed properly by a vet. bring a stool sample to have them test it for worms, because not all worms can be seen without a microscope. Another reason is diet change. Since he is a puppy, it is likely you changed his food since getting him or have given him a treat he is not used to. And puppies are mischievous and can get into things like people food and garbage when not supervised. I would start by feeding hm a diet of boiled chicken and rice instead of dog food for 2 days to see if that clears it up. If not, take a stool sample to your vet and have him looked at and dewormed.     Lu is so cute! It could be he has intestinal worms. They are common in puppies and cause diarrhea. If he isn't up to date on his deworming treatments, pick one up for him from the vet in the morning. Should he be up to date on his deworming treatments, then I'd make him an appointment with the vet to be checked out. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

I would recommend switching to a different food altogether like Science Diet or switch to a different puppy formula of Royal Canin that has less fiber. My dog has had loose motions 3 times in an hour now. I feed him cerelac and he is extremely active and cheerful. Is it okay for him to pass semi liquid stool?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Diarrhea isn't normal. Possible causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, ate something outside that is upsetting his stomach, reaction to new food/treat/table food or food allergy. I would highly recommend feeding him a commercial balanced puppy food. At 7 weeks of age he should be fully weaned and eating puppy food. I like Hill's Science diet, Royal Canin and Purina Prolplan. If the diarrhea continues then he should be dewormed and examined by a Vet. I wish you the best!

I have a 9 month old Shih-tszu/ multipoo mix puppy, he has loose stool a lot. We are currently feeding him Whole Hearted chicken and pea puppy food but I think that this particular food may not be right for him. Do you have a better recommendation to
I would switch him to plain boiled boneless, skinless chicken and white rice for a little while to see if this settles his tummy. If it improves, I would SLOWLY start to transition him to a new puppy food. I like science diet and royal canin. These are diets that have been around for a long time with the proper studies to back them up. I would also put him on a probiotic like purina fortiflora or proviable to see if this helps. If he is continuing to have loose stools, I would have your vet take a look at him to rule out parasites including giardia. Your vet will be able to do additional diagnostics if needed as well. They will be able to get him on the proper treatment to help him feel better as soon as possible. I hope this helps!

Poor Luna! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including a change in diet, bacterial over growth, parasites, something in the diet or other even organ disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth. She may need and antibiotic and/or a probiotic. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the new food can be done. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. Many commercial diets are too complex and some pets don't do well on them. RC is easily broken down by the body and many pets do well on this diet. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I would consider using a different diet. Jacki may be sensitive to that diet. I would recommend you consider any of the Royal canin, Purina or Science Diet puppy foods which would be great options for her. If you ever notice her stools being black, have her evaluated by a veterinarian as sometimes that is seen with gastrointestinal bleeding. Good luck!

As young puppies are susceptible to many causes of diarrhea, I would highly recommend having Luna seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible to test for parvo and parasites. Whatever the testing results, this will allow treatment to be as pointed as possible, helping her get over the ailment as fast as possible. Other possibilities include Luna eating something she should not eat, receiving excessive treats (hard to avoid when trying to train a puppy, so maybe talk to your vet about alternative treat options), other infectious diseases, and congenital abnormalities to name a few. Parasites and infectious disease are by far the most common, so ruling them out is the first step. Hope this helps!

My puppy is having brown stools. It is soft to pick up though and little squirts of poop come out when he is almost finished going potty. Is this normal and is there something we can give him to firm up his stools? Thank you
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! You can make sure that there is enough fiber in his diet. You can add canned pumpkin to add fiber to his diet which may help firm up his stools. You can add 1 tablespoon of canned pumpkin to his meals. You can also add probiotics such as Fortiflora. Best of luck!

If you suddenly switched his food without a gradual changeover, it can definitely cause digestive upset. I would pick up all food and then offer a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice to see if it helps settle his stomach, then try to feed his original diet until you decide on a new food. Products such as Science Diet, Purina, Royal Canin, etc all offer very high-quality foods and focus on a variety of issues such as sensitive stomachs, large breed, etc. When you do switch food, you'll want to switch over a period of 7-9 days, gradually adding in more of the new food each time, to help reduce the chances of digestive upset. if reverting to the old food doesn't help, or the GI upset worsens, a vet check and stool sample are best to rule out common issues such as parasites, allergies, etc that could be causing your pup's distress.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Personally the color doesn't bother me but the consistency does. That is diarrhea. It is too soft and not formed. I would go back to the Royal Canin food as it sounds like he digests that one better. Be sure though that he has had his stool tested for intestinal parasites and is up to date on his DHPP vaccines. As you've experienced, diet changes can certainly cause some changes in stool volume, and for some dogs, can cause a bit of vomiting and diarrhea. When it comes to the countless brands of dog food on the market today, it's overwhelming to pick one for your pup. I recommend brands that have been formulated by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, are manufactured in their own facility (less cross-contamination that facilities that manufacture numerous formulations), conduct AAFCO feeding trials, and meet WSAVA guidelines. When it comes down to it, the brands that meet those criteria include Hill's Science Diet, Purina, Royal Canin, Eukanuba, and Iams. As a result, I would recommend switching Lilly over to the Science Diet puppy food. Just remember that anytime you switch foods, be sure to do so by gradually mixing the old and new foods together over a 5-7 day period. I hope that everything goes well!
