My cat's head is tilted, has balance issues, and can't eat. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 months and 25 days old | 4 lbs

Naru, cat, 8 months old. She started vomiting a week and a half after being spayed, and had loss of balance. She had a toxoplasmosis test and we're currently waiting for the results. She's keeping her head tilted to a side making it difficult for her to eat on her own. She had treatment administered for the vomit episodes and started improving overall, but she is still keeping her head tilted and has a bit of a balance issue. Plus, she still can't properly eat on her own. What could it be?

Head tilt could be caused by deep inner ear infection (or polyp), stroke, infection such as toxoplasmosis, stroke, or even tumor although that would be rare at her age. If the toxo test comes back normal then I would consider requesting a referral to a neurologist where an MRI of the brain can be done. If that is not possible then I would trial treat with antibiotics and steroids. I am so sorry that she is going through this. I am sure you are very worried. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
