My dog has ear infection. What can I do at home before the vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 4 years and 7 months old | 65 lbs

I have a siberian husky and pretty sure she has an ear infection. she is scratching at it a lot, carrying her head tipped to the side. There is a discharge with nasty odor. Base of hear ear is warm. Opposite is similar but not as bad. Last couple days she has been helping when scratching at her ear. I just noticed the discharge last night. I have been using a damp cloth try to wipe them out. Intend to take her to a local vet on Monday. Is there I anything I can / should be doing for now?

Poor Luna! Taking her into the vet on Monday is exactly the right thing to do. You can use a cloth to continue to try to wipe her ear but I would avoid making it damp as water could get into her ear That will make any ear infection worse. I would place an Ecollar on her to keep her from scratching at her ear, as that will cause trauma to the ear. You can make an Ecollar at home, and I will put a link below on how to do that. Poor Luna! Yes, it definitely looks like she has an infection in her ear - yellow crusty debris like this is not normal. She will need prescription ear drops from your vet to treat this effectively, so I would recommend taking her in for an exam tomorrow morning. In the meantime, you can use an over-the-counter ear flush such as Epi-Otic to gently clean the affected ear and remove the crusty discharge. This will not treat the underlying infection, but may help to make her a bit more comfortable until you are able to see the vet.

The best solution would be to have Luna examined by your veterinarian. A swab of the ear can be looked at in the clinic to determine if there is a bacterial or fungal infection. The type of infection will determine what medication will be dispensed. The vet can also make sure the eardrum is intact. It is never recommended to medicate the ear without knowing if the eardrum is intact. If not, medication may enter the middle ear causing further complications. You can get some Epi-Otic from a pet store, and use that to clean her ears. This is safe to use in dogs. Otherwise, I would make sure she is a comfortable as possible, and have her seen by a vet on Tuesday.

My mom's dog has a red swollen right ear
Hello! Luna could have a couple things going on. When dogs have red ears, it could be due to an infection in the ear from bacteria or yeast, or they can have something stuck in their ear like hair or a grass seed. You can try flushing her ear out with a 50:50 mix of white vinegar and water and use a cotton ball to clean the ear once the flush is done. Hello- Darla has been rubbing her ears for about a week. It has become more frequent and she seems really bothered. I believe she has an ear infection. Is there something we can give her without having to go to the vet? Thank you in advance.
You can start flushing her ears with ear flush you can buy over the counter at a pet store. Or, use warm solution of half water, half vinegar and squirt a large volume into both ears. Then massage each ear until you get a swishing noise. Wipe the goo out with Kleenex and let her shake her head. The problem with this is that you might get the ear cleaner, but most dogs need an allergy medication like Apoquel or prednisone to stop the swelling and itching in the ear canal and feel better. Hello I was wondering what I could do to help my dog with an ear infection? Is there any medicine i could give her
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. You could try Zymox, which you can find online quite easily. However, the concern with just starting an ear medication without examining the ear canals is that you may be administering ear medications in an ear with a ruptured ear drum. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Luna so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! My dog seems to have some type of eye infection, a little bit of yellow discharge and her eye is pretty red.. vets in my area are closed right now but I did wash out with saline solution. Is there anything you can recommend in the meantime? She’s paw

Will augmentin treat a staff infection in a dog, that is localized, until I can get to our vet on Monday?
I would recommend waiting until Monday before starting any antibiotics so your vet can see what it looks like and start appropriate treatment. In the mean time, you can keep the area clean and place an e-collar on Luna if she's trying to chew at the area. If she's severely distressed, I would recommend an emergency clinic visit to get started on treatment sooner.

My dog has an ear problem I think it's I infected. What can I do while I wait to go to the etc vets.
Unfortunately there is not much you can do a part from apply an ear cleaner to get rid of some of the discharge and relieve discomfort. Ideally tympanic membrane integrity should be assessed before applying any product in the ear canal so I would strongly advice to have Buddy checked as soon as possible at your local veterinary clinic. He has an ear infection there is a lot of wax built up in ear and is scratching at ear and yelping. what course of action do I take if I can't afford to take him to a vet?
Unfortunately, there are no home remedies for an ear infection in a dog, and he does have to see a vet as soon as possible. Dogs do not get wax in their ears like humans do, so what you are seeing is a build up of either bacteria, yeast, or ear mites. It's very important to have any ear infections treated promptly, as leaving them can lead to hearing loss. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online.
