Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 12 lbs
We rescued a 12 year old Shih Tzu last Dec. She was a very laid back doggie, but loved everyone she seen. The rescue people told us she was around 6 or 7 years old, but the vet said she was almost 12. Any way she doesn't bark, unless she's sleeping. All she does is whine when she wants something. Right now she has a skin infection. How did she get such a thing when she only goes out when she has to go, and then she's right back in the house. I bath her in Oatmeal shampoo and it goes away.

I'm sorry to hear that Mungia is dealing with skin problems. A lot of skin infections in dogs can be secondary to scratching themselves from allergies. The can react to something in their environment such as weeds, grasses, pollen, mold or even something in their diet. I'm glad that bathing her seems to help. It is a great maintenance option for her so she doesn't need to be on medications. If the problem is not resolving, you will need to discuss longterm management strategies with her veterinarian. You will also want to rule out other issues such as mites, fleas or ringworm. I hope this information helps!
